STAR WARS: Why Rey Isn't Luke's Daughter

  1. This is one thing that makes having to wait in between films fun is theorizing and studying each story trying to find answers. I dig your theory but my problem is that part of why I'm leaning more towards the thought that she is Luke's daughter is that I believe that she is the meaning behind the name of the film "The Force Awakens". It awoke the moment that she reconnected with her past knowledge that she seems to have purposely been blocked from knowing when she was left on Jakku. Based on the story told of Kylo Ren having destroyed Luke's other students my guess is that Luke used the force to block her memories in order to keep her hidden from Ren/Snopes as he's well aware of their ability to sense other Jedi. I believe only Luke could have done this and that Rey being his daughter was what made saving her so important when so many were clearly lost. The look he had on his face seeing her was the look of a man who knows that if she's there, then they are now both in grave danger along with all others who are against the New Order.

    1. During the flash dream sequence when she first touched the lightsaber, someone called out "Rey". The voice and inflection certainly sounded like Obi-wan. Paid close attention the second time I saw it and I stand by that thought.

    2. It was Obi-Wan. Well publicized now, both Alec Guiness ("Rey") and Ewan McGregor ("these are your first steps.") speak during that sequence. And Ewan came back to record that line.

    4. Yoda is also in there so it seems more like a general connection to the force.

    5. Obi Wan seems a stretch considering his age.

  3. maybe it wasn't her family who dropped her off?

  4. in other movies the jedi can't have a wife or a husband (part of the jedi rules) but then again there was anikan who had padmae so i dont believe rey is the daughter of a jedi even though i wish she was.

    1. There is no Jedi order to stop someone from breaking the rules. Luke doesn't have to be married to have a kid. He could've had a one night stand and produced her. Mara Jade is gonna be her mom.

    3. Also, in the EU (now legacy? correct me if i'm wrong), Luke didn't ban relationships, as that was key in the fall of the Jedi Order. By forcing Anakin to choose between being a Jedi and Padme, they created the weakness that allowed the Emperor to manipulate Anakin into the sith.

  5. maz didn't say her family wasn't coming back...she said the people who she waiting for...she never said her family wasn't coming back.....even if luke is her dad and is the one who dropped her off, maz says they aren't coming back...she doesn't say anything about who is or isn't her family just they aren't coming back.....so heres why I think luke is her dad....my theory: luke is her dad reason 1..the conversation with maz about the lineage of the saber....reason 2...the way it affected her when touching it...reason 3...her interaction with luke and the way he looks at her and gets emotional......

ok now bear with me on this last bit, im going to try to tie its all together....so I believe the jedi mind trick idea of wiping her mind as a youngling for her protection and I think luke left her a puzzle to find him and that it was only for her(and this is where I second guess my own thought and say maybe a Kenobi descendent but either way LUKE wanted her to find him)...so the rebellion figures out where a map to luke is and sends poe and bb8...turns out to be only a small part.....well who has the rest?....good ol'R2D2....but nobody knows that and unfortunately r2 is in low power mode and has been that way since parting ways with luke......r2 is sad? droids don't have emotions only whats programed....and when does r2 decide to wake up and share his secret?....r2 only wakes up when rey shows up.....so I think that luke put r2 in sleep mode or programmed him to only wake up and reveal the map to rey his daughter(possibly obi wans grand daughter) but either way I believe that luke orchestrated it so only rey would be able to solve the puzzle and find him

  6. She is Han's and Leia's and Kylo is her twin brother.

    1. Ben Solo is 10 years older than Rey, they can't be twins

    2. The Han & Leia theory don't work, they would've revealed it to her. They know she is Luke's daughter but Han and Leia don't tell her because it's not their place to tell her. The Obi-Wan theory just makes no sense at all, unless you are on drugs. So Han, Leia, and Obi-Wan theory is gone.

    4. If Kylo is 10 years older than Rey, than that's Kylo holding her by her arm when she starts having the flashbacks as she touches the lightsaber. And he says "Quiet, kid!". The way Kylo asks "What girl?" when the officer reports BB-8s escape in the millennium falcon gives me the idea that he knew about her all along. Perhaps he's hiding her from Snoke? Perhaps she's stronger than him so he hid her so that neither Snoke or Luke couldn't find her?

  7. Everyone is talking that Rey gets visions when she touched the light saber of Anakin and Luke. I think there are 2 other clues that tell she is a Skywalker. The first time we see Ray at her place she walks by some sort of closet with a white-orange home made doll in it, which looks like a Rogue pilot. Then after she is done eating she puts on a Rogue helmet and than she hears BB 8. I think that those 2 things are clues that she is a Skywalker.

    1. Didnt that helmet look like lukes old rogue helmet from when he pioleted his xwing

    2. They actually confirmed I think it wasn't Luke's helmet. It was left from the war of Jakku. I think, I read that it was another pilots and just junk left over like the walkers and star destroyers. Not trying to say you're wrong but I think that is what I read. Could be me that is wrong of course too.

  8. Yes she is Han and Laia's daughter and she has The force because Laia is force sensitive

  9. Good theory...however what if Rey was adopted? Indeed her past is behind her and her family isn't coming back...but maybe she does not know that Luke is her biological father! This would explain her feeling of hope that her family will return and the fact that she is drawn to the force. Remember she learns the ways of the force rather quickly, mastering mind control immediately - something that took Luke Skywalker 2 episodes to master.

    1. She dug around in Kylo Ren's mind and picked up her force control from him; you can see his fighting style in her's.

  10. Maybe her parents abandoned her after all the other padwons were killed fearing she was a threat...she new Luke from training, but for some reason was not present during the slaughter. Or possibly Luke was just courting her knowing she has the force, that's why she doesn't know how to use it, Luke left to hide before training her. Now she is there to learn from the.master......

  12. I enjoy the kenobi lineage theory for Rey. Would also be awesome with the Kylo/Ben and Rey face-off that he is named after Obi Wan(took the name Ben when the jedi order fell and went into hiding). So for her to be the grand-daughter of someone his mother and uncle looked up to so much they named him after? It is exciting to see what unfolds!

    1. Plus, the Kylo/Rey struggle mirrors the Anakin/Obi-Wan struggle...

  13. Maz does say that what she has been waiting for isn't coming but she never says it's her family, what whatever it it was she was waiting for isnt coming back... Still room for Luke to be her father and be in her future. Also, Luke had a force using father... Remember that dude Anekin! peace

  14. I wonder if the parallels to the original trilogy that Rey seems to be following are smokescreens to make us think that Rey is Luke's daughter whereas she was really conceived by the Force like Anakin Skywalker was.
I did note that when Rey and Leia hugged that they looked very similar in that Rey could have passed for how Leia used to look at a similar age; the same Leia that used to speak with a more English accent, too, just like Rey does.
Personally, I hope Rey is Luke's daughter because this would follow on in some kind of "Circle being complete," which has been a common theme spoken by numerous members of the same family throughout all of the movies.
I'm looking forward to the following movie shedding some clues to help us fill in the gaps during the 30 years period in-between ROTJ and TFA, as that will be brilliant.

  15. Sorry dude, but the conversation you cite is the reason that I think she IS Luke's. The family that left her on Jakku isn't going back for her, but "someone still might" implies that she has a familial relationship with Luke. Luke's her dad.

  16. I also believe she is Han and Leia's kid but what if Han and Leia believe she is dead? What if when everything went down with Kylo, Luke and the new Jedi that Han and Leia were lead to believe she was killed. (might explain the vision she had of herself in the presence of the Knights of Ren) but maybe Luke actually got her out to safety and hid her on Jakku? With that old guy (Lor San Tekka played by Max Von Sydow) there watching over her much like Obi-wan watched over Luke on Tattooine (Don't forget it's the old guy who gets this whole story in motion plus he was also aware of the whole family situation.
